www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45791055Looks like ministers have finally agreed to PAVA being carried in male prisons from 2019 after a successful 6 month trial across 4 establishment's.

Lets just hope we get the rigid cuffs at the same time. I also think we should all be issued stab vests but only wear them when it calls for it.

Is there any benefits of the current cuffs you use? I've only ever used the rigid and they were brilliant.

No, rigid cuffs are far better.

Management have already put a downer on this. One thing I hate about HMP is the negativity and blame culture from the top, its bad enough with the moaning from the older officers 😂

Again, the female establishments are forgotten about.

First person to get hit with PAVA will be rolling in cash if they have a half decent lawyer. It has sexual discrimination written all over it.

PAVA is wicked stuff. We already carry it, at my establishment. It can defuse a situation within seconds once it’s deployed and it doesn’t even need to be sprayed for it be effective. Just pull it out and flip the lid, point at the aggressor and you’re sorted!

Another pouch to fit on my belt 😡 as much as I welcome it, it shouldn't be in the hands of some people as it's bound to be miss used by those that go out of their way to drop people on a daily basis.

Personally I think it will be a good thing. Non permanent damage and another aid for keeping us officers safe.

Agreed, it's definitely a deterrent too. Luckily not had to use mine yet but been present when deployed. It's effective alright! I'm not sure about it being subjective to sexual discrimination?
