I wasn't exactly interviewed but I was casually asked why I wanted to be a prison officer, what worried me about job, what I could bring to the job etc but cleverly done throughout the day as general conversation.

Exactly. I was fortunate enough to have to go back to the rad center about 8 months after I started and had a chat to the guy running it. ( the same guy that assessed me)
He told me all the ins and outs. Group discussions Leadership qualities Allowing other people to have their say Firm but fair Challenges improper behaviour Etc etc etc

There was no interview when I did my RAD back in November, which I have to say I found very odd. My initial feelings (and I appreciate I'm only just starting in this career) is that it's one thing to be able to pass the RAD but surely it's just as important to figure out *why* someone wants to join the service? Even an informal chat with someone casually asking the right questions would be enough.
Still, if they're desperate enough to drop the RAD altogether then an interview as well is probably not required in someone's eyes.

When I attended RAD the first guy i met sat me down and had a chat with me for about 20 mins, felt very much like an informal interview, why i chose this career, what id done previous, expectations etc... all what u would expect to speak about in an interview. So i would say to a degree i did both interview and RAD and definately believe that both are needed.

My RAD was similar, it felt as though there was an informal interview in the day.

I've seen this on FB, but I can't find any reliable source for it. It doesn't seem genuine to me. I've applied to a London prison in November, I had an interview during the familiarisation day (before RAD) and I also had to answer five questions in writing (why do I want to be a prison officer, what skills do I think I have for it, what do I think will be the most difficult part of the job, what's my family and friends opinion about it and... another one I forgot). Only after that, my RAD was booked and it had all the elements and five scenarios (YOI). So it's a bit weird to hear there's no RAD or interview for London prisons.
