Absolute rubbish. Nurses aren't first on the scene at all it will be an Officer or Officers. Nurses are not expected to go in to cells that are filled with smoke from spice. We tell prisoners to come out if they are able. If not we put on smoke hoods and go in and drag them out. I myself have had to go home from work due to second hand inhalation of spice. It is a massive problem but this article is misleading.

I've donned snatch hoods 3 times to go in to drag a spiced up prisoners out. We always tell the nurses on scene to stay back until clear. Even then you can be affected by secondary inhaled smoke.
It costs around £350 to replace a smoke hood.

Now I'm no scientist but I think Te problem I that the spice molecules are the same size as an oxygen molecule so a gas mask is rendered inoperative. Cell snatch equipment or smoke hoods are designed for fire rescue. They give protection from heat as well as an independent oxygen supply

That's the wonder of laws and legislation. If something is not against the law, then by default its legal until such time as its made illegal.
That's how a democracy works

At one stage where I work we must of had a batch on wing as we were having 4 or 5 code blues called per day for about a week. The batch was particularly nasty as it sent them unconscious and fitting on the floor.
But that was extreme. But its a daily occurrence on most wings. Normally they will just be like a drunk. Cant walk straight, dilated pupils slurred speech.

I’ve never seen health staff first on scene and I’ve never seen a member of their team enter a smoke filled cell, that pleasure is ours with the aid of a smoke hood.

One thing that gets me in the article is this..
Often health care are 1st on the scene and are expected to enter a smoke filled cell...
One if health care turn up they are escorted onto a wing, especially if during association.
And how do they enter a cell if not escorted. If its during a lockdown like on labour time how do they enter the cell? They don't carry a cell key on the buch

Good for yous. We have no such thing as a smoke hood up here but tbh we don't seem to have as big an issue so far. Did have an hour long carting this morning after sum1 smoked spice in exercise yard this morning and fitted then came 2 and then went bonkers. By time we got that sorted another 5 started dropping like flies in the same unit.
