It’s not all about HMP Birmingham. It also goes into the problems with IPP prisoners who are kept jailed indefinitely, and also looks at prison suicides. ALL of this documentary applies to ALL prisons. Maybe he shouldn’t watch it... About to make a cuppa and give it a watch.

Make him watch it, and just lie.

Definitely worth a watch, but some parts are infuriating.

Walked into a jail with drugs is like walking into a shop.... don’t think he deserves his face to be hidden if I’m honest. Fucking prick.

Watched this last night with my partner. Some things should be watched alone. She now thinks all prisons are like the riots all the time and she couldn't understand how officers become corrupted. It caused quite a heated debate...
That aside, g4s, need I say more... profit making bastards who put lives at risk. The young lad in seg with a cell bell going for 35 minutes while on an ACCT. I fucking hope the female officer got at least sacked, better would have been a sentence for her culpability. As for the officer. He's the lowest of the low, I hope I never meet him. His attitude towards bringing items in was shocking and who's to say he'd not been doing it for a lot longer than he was claiming. Fucking scum, absolute fucking scum.
As much as the documentary was enlightening it was very bias towards the worst kind of things that can happen in the estates. This might be good for getting the government to open it's eyes but I doubt that any of the current MPs will have even watched the program. It may sway public opinion but I doubt that as well. So long as it goes on behind closed doors then it's all ok... but it's not, it's far from ok. It's a disgrace and those who sit in ivory towers should come and shadow officers for a week and see things up close and personal.
Me personally, I've nearly finished my course and when I go live I WILL do the job to the best of my ability with or without the support of my colleagues and if I suspect any officer of being corrupt I WILL report YOU and I WILL make sure you're life as an officer is finished.
I'll climb off my soapbox now...

You will work with Officers who are lazy and have shocking attitudes towards the cons. I don't take on board what most Officers say and do. I'm a Christian and this governs my whole life so I always do the best I can at work. That with the female Officer in the csu was truly shocking more so because it's not surprising. If someone is on an Acct we must ensure they are checked within the timescale on the Acct at the time which can be up to 5 obs an hour. It's vital.

Agree Saxon79. For prisoners on an ACCT I make sure I keep an eye and an ear on the cell bells both in the office and by the cell light, regardless of how frequent their obs are. I was gobsmacked at how she missed it!

Agreed, there is enough to do during the working day to keep you busy !! At no point should you be sat in the office chilling ! And cell bells should always be answered with haste especially during a night shift as this is when the prisoners are at there most vunerable ! Even if the bell was put on for a bullshit reason it should always be answered ! If its bulshit challenge it and stick a neg on nomis
