Shouldn't be on the wing on their own. I got left twice in 2 days on the wing on my own so I came off for my own safety.

This seems to be a recurring theme in some prisons reading the posts on KTD.

Should always have sight of other Officers on the wing. It's just so unsafe to be on a wing on your own.

Fully alone or alone shadowing?
More detail needed for assistance on this!
If you are live you can be alone doing shit but when unlocking, but there should ALWAYS be a team of at least 6 depends on the size (number to unlock). Usually it’s 1 Officer per 10-15 inmates/men/cons what ever they’re called.
If there’s only 40 on a wing; 6 is a waste. One per landing to unlock is fine to me if there’s around 30/40 on it (say 100-120 per wing) but you need to keep tabs on who’s coming back etc - know your res block/landing!!!
Ask your mentor for support and remember to tell them straight away of anything you feel unhappy about or that needs improving - that’s what they’re there for.
It’s not uncommon for meds and lunch to be served together - it’s a case of controlled unlock; some days it’s good (like ours today), others chaos (like yesterday). Every day is different as different landing officers do it differently. It’ll not change... if it’s too much of a challenge... consider if it’s the role for you. No one said being a P.O. was easy...
If they’re banged up, or just cleaners out/few workers making calls I’m perfectly fine alone if I got a radio. It’s experience and confidence that comes from doing the job and placing no expectations on it to be fully staffed.

Take that to your mentor. That should NEVER happen! I’d be by an office, near a phone and on a radio straight away asking for staff.
Flipping heck - I’d be having kittens at my jail: if a fight broke out, what would or could you realistically have done? You’d have lost the jail.
Over 100 out on soch; that’s a big jail you’re at buddy - I’m at a local (4 wings; only one main block). SAFETY FIRST YEAH? Think of yourself first! Why were you alone? No jail will have 100 red bands!

You’re alone, with 100 out on association?? 😱
No way should that be allowed. The prisoner:staff ratio should never be more than 30:1 at the very most. That means there should be 4 of you on association. I’d be refusing to unlock. If they don’t have the staff, then the jail should be on an RMP. What’s your POA doing about it?

Staff just walked off the wing without checking. I came off myself when I realised and I brought it up in front of the other officers and the s.o

That’s really naughty of them to do that. Never leave the wing during association, unless it’s absolutely necessary, and always tell your colleagues & S/O where you’re going and how long you’ll be - rule 101 in the prison officers guide for dummies.

I agree Highland. I would refuse to unlock if I was gonna get saddled with 100 nutters let out and muggins was it. Fairy puff at Whatton: not a lot happens with SOs. They’re as a rule of thumb better behaved but no; just no. A new member of staff? No WAY would it happen at my jail.
OP did you complain? Tell your mentor and poa rep? I’m out on DD now: no fucking way.

I am shocked that this could be for real. We have 120 prisoners on our wing and on association we will most of the time have 4 officers and an SO makes me feel privilidged to have this. This is completely unacceptable.

Since I mentioned it in our early morning meeting it hasn't happened to me. Although 2 of us where left with about 106 prisoners on association the other day.

That’s still not on, Saxon! They cannot expect you to do association for 106 prisoners with only 2 officers. It’s disgraceful how they’re treating you.

To be fair it's just people not paying attention and just walking off.
