www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-45240742Not sure the Government running this establishment for 6 months will be enough, even with a reduction in the prisoner numbers and bringing in more staff. Out of the 300 going, where are they going and what shitstorm will that cause elsewhere... As for the extra staff, where are these coming from? Bad time of the years for pulling staff from other establishment's to help out in Brum

Goodness. Cockroaches! That must be bad. I can’t imagine G4S will be given back control. Surely? What would happen to the employees? Would they be retrained/recontracted or our on their ears? I see the governer is being removed and rightfully so.
Perhaps they’ll call on people who are merit listed in that region to start POELT immediately and will be posted there?
I can imagine this won’t be an easy task at all!

I do know that hmpps are advertising for a person experienced in TUPE contracts.
Tupe is the transition of employees and contracts from one company to another because of a take over.
Maybe this might be for Birmingham coming back into the fold

Seen this advert the other week, maybe Birmingham or maybe the whole estate, running prisons for profit is never gonna work.

Maybe this might be for Birmingham coming back into the fold On the flip side, it could also mean more prisons being pushed out to private hands.
Another thought is it could be nothing to do with the prisons and relates to the probation service. It was announced at the end of July that the private probation contracts were being ended early and ended in 2020 so recruiting now for a TUPE person seems about right for that coming to an end.
6 months isn’t enough to get this situation resolved and I imagine this will take a year plus to fully resolve the problems if they are as bad as the press makes out. I would also like to think that if the contract isn’t terminated early, G4S would not be allowed to apply again to run the prison based on their current history.
Unfortuantely G4S are too big to fail and the government needs to keep bailing them out due to being so intertwined with core functions. It raises the question of how can a private company be allowed to make profit when they take little responsibility when it comes to the risk element? Yes it will cost G4S millions in fines and fees for the government stepping in to resolve Birmingham, but when they have so many fingers in so many pies it wont make a dent to their balance book.

My thoughts are that through Intel they know who the worst of the worst are and they'll be shipped out to other establishment's around the country (recently done at my establishment and each has gone to either Cat A or B). This in theory should bring HMP Birmingham under more control for a short time.
It's basically fire fighting the problem but give it some time and things will go back to normal there. I.e. the way things are now.
G4S is renowned for fudging their figures so once they have control again they'll soon lose it back to the prisoners.

I can’t see HMPPS recruiting and training staff to send on a permanent basis to HMP Birmingham but I think they’ll look at enforcing some mobile grades to do detached duty

HMP Birmingham is now back under government control permanently. It's a welcome surprise and maybe time to show that PFC initiatives don't actually work when it comes to essential public services. BBC

Our benefits and pensions are a lot better but their staring salary is higher. It's nice to get some more numbers in our ranks though and the recruitment will begin shortly I expect to ensure there are enough officers to run the place effectively.

Its not that much different. Hmps is based on a 37 hour per week plus an ACH payment if applicable. G4s is based on a 39 hour contract.
I'm on a 39 hour plus im on increment 4. That takes my pay in exess of the equivalent at g4s. Plus I do about 5 pp hours per week G4s do not pay 20% of my pre tax pay into my pension and I only pay 5.75%
I'm far better off as the staffing levels are 5 to a wing of 110 and that is going up to 6, as opposed to 3 to 120.. Where would you prefer to work!!! 😊

BBCNot a chance, the Tories are in power and they love giving contracts to their big money pals in the private sector.
