From what I know, all Northern Irish police and prison officers are issued with a personal firearm for their own protection outside of work.

Yeah they need it, my wife's uncle worked over there prior to moving to Wakefield later in his career. Said he would never go back across.

I couldn’t even begin to imagine how hard it must be. You’d never be able to relax and let your guard down. Ever. It takes a special kind of person to be able to do those jobs there, and they have my total and complete respect ✊

When my mum was growing up in Ireland there was certain streets she couldn’t walk down! Northern Ireland is such a beautiful place (biased) but it gets ruined by things like this. I don’t understand people’s hatred of prison officers it doesn’t make sense! We didn’t force their hands to commit their crimes and we didn’t put them there 🤨
I’m shocked IRA have done this, they’ve been relatively quiet over the years I’ve been told by family over there.

Fuck that indeed. Why would the prisoners target specific prison officers tough? They must have done something that pissed them off a lot

Probably because the Officers in question do their jobs properly. Cons don't like Officers who do their job properly.
