Makes for hard reading for anyone joining at the moment especially if they have doubts. Losing almost 100,000 years of experience because of cuts is not justifiable by any means. Scary to think someone with only 3 years experience is classed as experienced when years ago they'd still be wet behind the ears.
Good job some of us like a challenge eh...

It’s really obvious when at your establishment at the sheer number of inexperienced staff. I can’t speak for all establishments but where I am they always try and have an experienced member of staff on when there are POELTS, not always possible though!

I've been quite shocked at the number of 'kids' on the landings in uniform. No offence to anyone young going in to the job this tough, in fact I admire anyone who does but I've heard some very worrying things from my tutors about a few young people who've passed and even rivalry amongst different cohorts. At the end of the day we all wear the black and white of the service so who passed when and where sould not make any difference at all...

I went live on boxing day and over the last few weeks there's been a number of times when I've been the most experienced Officer on the wing on certain shifts. 2 days running that was the case a couple of weeks ago. I had 2 lads who had been live 1 week and another who had been live about 7 weeks. Chances are this will happen at some point to other new Officers. I've had newer Officers already shadowing me.

Not sure I'd feel comfortable being put in that position Saxon, but I understand it would cause more issues if you refused to unlock or lockup because of something that's really out of your control.

Fortunately for me being nearly 40 I have plenty of life experience which has helped me a great deal in this job. I've had no choice but to hit the ground running.
