I thought it was okay. A bit rushed and as others have said they could’ve easily done a longer episode or even a series. Nice to see something more upto date though.
I watched it with my partner who did comment half way through and said she cannot believe the immaturity of some of the recruits on display. She said said that laughing about things only kids would... she said that in her opinion it kind of highlights one of the problems within the recruitment drive. I think the bearded lad will do ok, not sure on the ex navy fella and I would be surprised if either of the lasses stick it out.

I think the bearded lad will do absolutely fine. I do though also think it’s hard to judge the others in such a short clip. They may not behave like that usually but being in front of the cameras could just make them nervous.

I think what some might see as immature laughing will be for a few a coping mechanism. I've done the same and seen it first hand and understand the environment we are going to will mean my dark and twisted humour will show. Some will understand, others may not. What ever coping mechanisms you choose (so long as it's legal) who are we to judge...

As a new, fresh out the packet officer it was interesting to see how it’s done elsewhere. The graduation ceremony isn’t done at most locations now (it’s supposed to be all locations) It only seemed to concentrate on he C&R and RPE element of POELT though. I guess a documentary on 629260018363 hours of power point would put people off 😂
Good luck to everyone who’s about to start POELT. You’ll make some friend for life 😃

BBC Stories, Training for a Life in Prison: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p062g9hq via @bbciplayer This looks like it could be interesting for people applying, or thinking about applying to join the service. I haven’t watched it yet myself, but seen a trailer.

Just watched it and the only way I can describe it is like watching a movie on fast forward. Didnt really show or explain anything.
The only thing I know is that I have got £10 on that Syra leaving within the year. Hat off to her though she had the balls to give it a go.

I'm a bit sceptical that they asked them only "whats the funniest thing thats been said to you" and "do you think you will make a difference" instead of "whats the best *and worst* about the job" - as an subtle government led recruitment driving propaganda video I think them showing the lighter side of prison life is misleading to anyone considering this career. I may be being too sceptical though but for a BBC documentary it seemed like it was trying to sell the recruitment process instead of giving it a balanced review - im pre-poelt but it doesnt quite match up the reviews on this forum?

I currently work for a large corporate company and the staff turnover over is currently not far off 1 in 3 leaving within the first 2 years and that is only through natural replacement, not a major recruitment campaign.
When I started there were 6 of us new starters and 3 left within the first 6 months and 1 more a year later. 2 of us are still there now 13 years later and it certainly isn't a dangerous job!
What I'm saying is people have various reasons for leaving a new job such as the job was not how they imagined, shifts, pay, location, personal circumstances, etc but because it's the prison service it is generally perceived to be down to 'danger', 'crisis', short staff or whatever negative stuff the media love to publish.
I cannot wait to leave my current employer and start my new career but will be leaving a lot of colleagues behind who are very happy to stay and definitely would not advise anyone not to work for my company just because I don't like it.

It’s not perceived to be down to those things, it is those things and more.
In your current job, has a colleague been hospitalised this week? Have they had there head stamped on and had to have surgery to release the pressure from their skull? Be under no illusion, this isn’t your run of the mill job, the dangers are very real and not comparable to any corporate company.
This isn’t the press publishing negative stuff, this is the reality of what could and does happen in many establishments on a daily basis.
